The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows U.S. employers to temporarily employ foreign workers in specialty occupations. The H-1B visa is a highly sought-after visa, and the number of applications received each year far exceeds the number of visas available. As a result, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) conducts a lottery to select the applications that will be processed.
Currently, USCIS accepts H-1B petitions for the fiscal year that begins on October 1st and ends on September 30th. The H-1B lottery takes place in April, and the selected petitions are notified in May. For the fiscal year 2025, the H-1B lottery will take place on April 1, 2024, and the selected petitions will be notified on May 8, 2024.
