The volleyball transfer portal is a database of student-athletes who are looking to transfer to another school. It was created by the NCAA in 2018 to help student-athletes find a new school that is a better fit for their academic and athletic needs. The portal is open from May 1st to August 1st each year, and student-athletes can enter their name into the portal at any time during that period. Once a student-athlete enters their name into the portal, they are immediately eligible to be contacted by other schools.
The volleyball transfer portal has been a major success since its inception. In the 2021-22 school year, over 1,000 student-athletes entered their name into the portal, and over 500 of them transferred to a new school. The portal has helped student-athletes find a better fit for their academic and athletic needs, and it has also helped schools fill their rosters with talented players.
