Included in the European Green Deal, the EU’s strategy to make Europe climate neutral by 2050, the New Forest Management Strategy (NFMS) 2030 sets out a new vision for the EU’s forests. The strategy is based on four pillars: climate change mitigation and adaptation; forest protection; sustainable forest management; and increasing the resilience of forests to crises and disasters. The strategy also includes a number of specific targets, such as increasing the area of forest in the EU by 3% by 2030, and reducing the use of pesticides in forests by 50% by 2030.
The NFMS 2030 is an important step towards making Europe’s forests more resilient and sustainable. The strategy will help to protect forests from the impacts of climate change, such as drought, wildfires, and pests. It will also help to promote sustainable forest management practices, such as reducing the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and increasing the use of natural pest control methods.
