Pennsylvania state law mandates that all vehicles registered in the state undergo a yearly safety inspection. This inspection is designed to ensure that vehicles are in safe operating condition and meet minimum safety standards. Inspection stickers are issued upon successful completion of the inspection and must be displayed on the vehicle’s windshield. The color of the sticker indicates the month and year that the next inspection is due.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) began issuing color-coded inspection stickers in 1986. The current sticker design features a blue background with the month and year of the next inspection printed in white. The sticker also includes the vehicle’s license plate number and a unique identification number. Inspection stickers are valid for one year from the date of issuance.
