The European Health Record (EHR) Alliance, an alliance of national health authorities, was established in 2013 and developed the EHR Exchange System (EHR-EHS) to exchange patient summaries across borders. The EHR-EHS was renamed to eHealth Digital Service Infrastructure (eHDSI) in 2019, and the EHR Alliance transitioned into the eHDSI Joint Undertaking on 13 December 2021. ehra 2025 is a milestone in the development of the eHDSI, with the aim of creating a functioning, sustainable, and interoperable European health data space by 2025.
The eHDSI will enable the secure exchange of patient data between healthcare providers across Europe. This will improve the quality of care for patients, as they will be able to access their health records from anywhere in Europe. The eHDSI will also make it easier for researchers to conduct clinical trials and develop new treatments. By making it easier for patients to access their health data, the eHDSI will empower patients to take control of their own health.
